Makayla Garrett

Bio

Makayla Garrett holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Dance from Messiah University with a concentration in Pedagogy and currently works full-time as a Senior Coordinator in Human Resources. She began dancing at the age of three, but started training at the pre-professional level in Ballet throughout middle and high school at The Academy of Dance Arts in NJ under Shayne & Nicholas Mishoe, Viorica Stampfel, and Bridget Trochiano, receiving Distinction on all exams taken through the Royal Academy of Dance. During her senior year of undergrad, Makayla spent her semester abroad at the University of Roehampton in London training in Graham technique under Georgia Tegou before returning to complete her degree under Gregg Hurley and Danielle Smith-Guillermo. After graduating in 2019, Makayla continued teaching ballet to various levels and ages, while performing with Alma Latina Boston and Pantos Project Dance Ensemble. Makayla took her first Heels class with Tara Brown in March of 2021 and fell in love, which has led her toward pursuing a commercial dance path. She joined the Dance Heels team, initially as an intern, in September 2021, and now helps manage the day-to-day operations of Boston Dance Studios. Makayla recently made her debut with The Boston She Party and continues to train and take classes with the incredible BDS faculty. She is excited to share her knowledge and passion with BDS dancers!

Class Description

Beginner Heels: Beginner heels will build foundationally off of the Heels Technique class. We will apply the technique activated in the Heels Technique class to across the floor exercises and basic center choreography. This class will begin with a warm-up to prepare for the heels, followed by a basic run through of heels foundations, and lead into basic choreography across the floor and in the center. This class is open to all levels of dancers who are looking to learn choreography in a heel.
