Jenny Oliver

Bio

Jenny Oliver is an artist in the Greater Boston area working as a teacher, performer, choreographer, and advocate for artistic integrity. She is a trauma informed, culturally responsive kinetic storyteller, working at the intersection of dance, education, and collective collaboration to elevate issues affecting marginalized people. As a culturally Black person of Cape Verdean and Native American heritage, she is inspired by the ability of dance to catalyze meaningful and effective change in the lives of others. Alongside her work as an educator and choreographer, she is on faculty at Tufts University, Emerson College, the Dance Complex and Deborah Mason Performing Arts Center. When not teaching or choreographing she performs with Roots Uprising under the Artistic Direction of Nailah Randall-Bellinger.

Class Description

Modern: Modern Connections is a Horton based modern dance technique class taught at a pace designed for the students in the room. Class begins with sequential and consistent warm-up, continues with center phrases that are designed to promote competence and growth of proper alignment. Students will build the necessary vocabulary and body awareness required for Flat Back, Lateral T, Pelvis Press, Tables, Release Swings and Spirals through individualized corrections focused on alignment and detailed explanations of the initiation of each movement.
