Ramone Owens

Bio

Originally from Los Angeles, Ramone Owens is an assistant professor of Theater at The Boston Conservatory teaching Jazz and Musical Theater dance. Owens spent twelve years as a performer most recently on Broadway in Beetlejuice, The Musical (OBC). Other credits: Broadway/National Tour; Motown, The Musical. Off-Broadway: Finian’s Rainbow, Irish Repertory Theater. Regional highlights: The Sting, Papermill Playhouse; The Prince of Egypt, Theaterworks Silicon Valley; Singin’ In The Rain, Sacramento Music Circus; Oklahoma!, Musical Theater West; Hairspray, Tuacahan Center for the Arts; Dreamgirls, Arts Center of Coastal Carolina.

Owens served on the faculty at the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts (NYCDA) and Long Island University (LIU) where he taught jazz and Musical Theater dance. He was also a guest instructor at the American Music and Dramatic Academy’s High School Summer Conservatory (AMDA, New York). Owens has been an associate choreographer at North Carolina Theatre and Pace University (Memphis, The Musical), The University of Michigan (Caroline or Change) and guest choreographer at FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology), New York. 

A proud alumnus of the Boston Conservatory, Owens holds a B.F.A. in Musical Theater with an emphasis in Dance. While in Boston, he attended and received a full scholarship to study at the Boston Ballet’s Summer Dance Intensive, and also performed with the Boston Dance Company.

Class Description

Jazz Technique: This class will focus on jazz fundamentals and style—strengthening and expanding technique, vocabulary, flexibility and maintenance. It will focus on across-the-floor progressions, jumps, turns, and combinations  connecting ballet technique as a foundation throughout different styles of jazz dance. We will approach dance anatomically; creating consistent line, posture, and shape. The class will highlight pick-up skills, storytelling and performance.

Musical Theater: This class is designed for students that want to enhance technical proficiency and performance in Musical Theater dance and Jazz. It is designed to expand and finesse the relationship with music and space— exploring movement quality and musicality through Jazz and Musical Theater styles. This class highlights artistic expression, improvisation, storytelling and choreography.
